5 Hair Loss Treatment Solutions to Consider

Hair loss is a reality shared by millions of people, but that doesn’t make the struggle any easier. Losing your hair can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed. However, modern medicine has provided some viable treatments for those suffering from hair loss. It’s just a matter of finding the right one for you. Here are five hair loss treatment solutions to consider.

Minoxidil

Available without a prescription in most drug stores, minoxidil is made for both women and men. The medication comes in the form of a foam or solution to be massaged into your scalp once per day. Initially, minoxidil can cause more hair to fall out, and other hair may become shorter and thinner. However, with at least six months of use, you may begin to see new, stronger hair take its place. Unfortunately, minoxidil has some side effects that can include increased heart rate, undesired hair growth on areas that came into contact with the product, and skin irritation.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

The benefits of PRP hair loss treatment are natural and come directly from your own body. PRP is made by taking blood and putting it through a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the red cells and plasma. The platelets are then collected and injected into the target area. The proteins and growth factors in PRP have been shown to encourage and accelerate healing. Since some causes of hair loss may be due to follicular damage, PRP hair loss treatment can help hair to grow back. The procedure poses little long-term risk, and side effects are relatively mild. These can include discomfort and slight bleeding at the injection site, tender scalp, swelling, itching, and headache.

Finasteride

Finasteride is available by prescription only and works by blocking dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone implicated in male-pattern baldness. It comes as a pill and taken once daily. Many men experience reduced hair loss with this and may even experience hair regrowth. Continual use of the medication is required to maintain the results. Finasteride does come with some disadvantages. It’s not usually effective for men over 60, and it’s not approved for use in women. The pill must never be taken or handled by pregnant women. The drug may also cause low libido and impotence for men as well as a higher risk of prostate cancer.

Hair Transplants

The most common place to experience hair loss is at the top of the head. This makes hair transplantation a good potential option for people who have plenty of hair on the rest of their head. The procedure works by carefully removing small portions of skin containing live hairs from one part of the head. The hairs are harvested follicles and all and implanted into the balding section of the head. It may be recommended to use minoxidil after the procedure to further reduce hair loss. However, multiple procedures may be required. If your balding is genetic, you will continue to lose hair despite having hair transplants. The procedure is costly and uncomfortable and may result in scars and bleeding. There are some countries where hair transplant is affordable and the doctors are highly trained in this medical field, such as Turkey. They can perform FUE hair transplants, a modern hair transplant technique that does not leave any visible scars,  it is totally painless and confers a natural look. In case you are interested in an FUE hair transplant we recommend one of the best hair transplant clinics in Turkey (Hair-Transplant-Turkey.org).

Laser Treatments

The FDA recently approved a new laser device for the treatment of both male and female hair loss. Some studies have found that it increases hair density. However, the device hasn’t been around long, so little is known about the potential risks or long-term effects. While not everyone who experiences hair loss feels like they should do something about it, plenty of people want a solution to their balding. Fortunately, several options exist.
