Signs You Are Working Too Much

There is no doubt that working too much can be a major problem in all sorts of ways. As well as the negative impact it can have on your mental wellbeing; this is also true of your physical health at the same time. Sometimes, it can be hard to tell that you are working too much in our extremely busy culture, but here are a few of the most common signs that this is the case.

You Turn to Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms

If you are cracking open a bottle of wine or eating unhealthily the moment you get home from work, there is every chance that you are not in a healthy working pattern. Not only is this a sign of stress, but it is much more likely that this is going to result in other health issues, and you may have to rely on your Company Health Insurance to get yourself back up to speed. On your commute, try to use this time to destress from the events of the day.

Your Productivity is Suffering

The next sign that you are working too much is the simple fact that you are not able to be as productive as you once were. It may well be the case that your concentration is waning, and you are not able to focus on a task for more than a few minutes at a time. In fact, working too much may be having the opposite effect to the one that you were intending, and you are actually less productive overall. Better rest may help you to get back on track once again.

You are Struggling to Sleep (or Wake up)

It may seem obvious to say, but a clear sign that you are working too much is that you are struggling to wake up in the morning as you are so tired. In fact, it may also be the case that you are struggling to drift off to sleep at night as well. This may be simply down to the fact that you are worrying about work in the time that you would otherwise be getting some much-needed shuteye. Try to establish a regular sleeping routine that you can continue to use on a nightly basis.

Your Mood is All Over the Place

Another common sign that you are working too much is a struggle to regulate your mood. In this situation, it is often going to be the case that you end up taking out your bad feelings on the people around you, which means that your friends and family members will suffer as a result of your overwork.

Ultimately, it is always going to be worth reminding yourself that there is more to life than work. For many of us, this simple fact can easily escape us, but if you create a more healthy work-life balance, this is bound to be beneficial for your life in general, so hopefully, you are encouraged to do this.
